Project Description

Building outstanding businesses with exceptional partners

Mulpha identifies, investigates and invests in other operating businesses where Mulpha’s core activities, together with capital, can unlock value and deliver risk-adjusted returns for shareholders and other stakeholders.

Mulpha looks to take a “hands-on”, supportive and commercial approach as a value-adding investor. This is achieved through actively leveraging its unique combination of operational and management expertise, internal capabilities, strategic foresight, financial acumen and extensive networks of potential customers, suppliers and channel partners in Australia and internationally.

Our Competitive Advantages

  • We are proven operators, and understand and respect other proven operators.
  • We see good people, strong alignment and organisational culture as drivers of long-term success.
  • We are active partners in the growth journey, not just with capital, but able to add value through a combination of our assets, infrastructure, people, experience and industry connections.
  • We have real estate development and asset management skills that can be structured around a deal.
  • We are an experienced investor across a range of asset classes, industries and business lifecycles (including distress).

Our Investment Criteria

  • We seek opportunities which recognise our competitive advantages. We have expertise in the hotel, hospitality, leisure, education, experiential and service retail, real estate services, childcare and technology sectors.
  • We prefer businesses that have reached profitability, generating circa $1m to $20m in cash flow per annum.
  • We wish to be to a direct, involved and helpful shareholder, working with management to drive growth.
  • We are flexible in our ownership levels (from minority to majority), provided we have appropriate representation and rights to have a “seat at the table”.
  • While we generally do not participate in third party funds for traditional private equity investments, we welcome opportunities to co-invest with like-minded investors where our competitive advantages can assist.
  • We are flexible on holding period, ranging from a more traditional 0 to 5 years, through to perpetuity if it makes sense to do so.
  • We can participate anywhere in the capital structure as equity, debt or a hybrid solution. We will also look at distressed opportunities.
  • We have a swift internal decision-making process and can execute transactions in a timely manner.
  • We are open to investment opportunities in Australia and New Zealand, as well as those which might look to leverage Mulpha’s broader relationships in Asia.
